Day 29, Friday, 21 June, Topeka to Olathe

Today was relatively short and in eventful. Google map's bike route Sid that we had about 55 miles to travel. At one point the road went from paved to unpaved and I asked a local if the road continued. He said "yes, but then the paved road on the other side is closed because of construction." A slight detour added about 2 miles to the trip and increased the miles on unpaved roads from 1 to 3. We reached Lawrence, where I took Louis to see the home of Guy Dresser, a cousin. After lunch we proceeded to Olathe. Google maps against put us on 3 more miles of unpaved road. We added miles with a few wrong turns in Olathe: my maps use different names for the same road, the signs sometimes use a third name, roads appear that are not on my maps, and roads on my maps do not exist.

In the end we reached the home of Ann Ramsey, another cousin, and her husband, Rick. They treated us like kings. She had prepared snacks and bought good beer. For dinner, He cooked steaks and potatoes on the grill and she made green and fruit salads.

We rode 61.57 miles at an average speed of 10.9 mph. My maximum speed was 31.8 mph.
