What a wonderful day. We went off the reservation and headed straight east, ignoring our directions from Google. Traffic was light because we were riding on the 4th and our decision was ride. After about 20 miles we followed a nice bike path. Riding into Newark Garrett Zambrows joined us. He is riding 12,000 miles from point to point while speaking about and against human trafficking. Visit www.ridingagainsttraffic.org to learn more. He joined us for lunch and we followed him to his next stop, Coshocton. Coshocton was few miles off of our route but the promise of hearing him speak and fireworks was too great a temptation. His host, Joe Sanders, invited Louis and I to stay with his wife and him. They fed us a grand dinner - brats, burgers, salads, and watermelon - and washed clothes. We went with Joe and Garrett to the fairgrounds for the 4th of July celebration. The celebration included an Elvis impersonator, a talk by Garrett, vendors, the presence of of Miss Ohio and Miss Ohio Teen, and fireworks. The evening was Americana at its best.
Another treat awaited when we returned to Joe's house. Garrett carries an mandolin and Joe had a guitar. Garrett anfd Louis played and sang while Joe and I watched the fireworks throgh the trees.
I have few pictures of the ride for two reasons. First, the scenery is similar to the Piedmont in VA. Second, light rain and mist fell intermitently and keeping the iPad stored well was easier.
We rode approxiatelyn70.02 miles, the last 69.02 of which at an average speed of 13.6 mph. Garrett's presence speed up the second half of the day. My maximum sped was 33.6 mph.
